Anything besides that, the game works just fine. The colours are messed up whenever I'm on a level intro screen, before every level starts. Also, occasionally it will show a black screen on the title screen except where a button is such as "1 Player" or "New Level". Another is that the game always returns to the title screen after each level, instead of going to the next one. One is the problem mentioned above by Tjuderl. I'm having a few problems with running Lemmings under 0.72. Strangely, the sound and music seem to be of lower quality, especially the higher tones. It does, however, respond to right clicks (bringing me back to the title screen, which isn't too bad because the music sticks). In the edited version, I think there's a mouse error on the title screen, because the results screen of the level (where it shows how many lemmings were saved, etc.) doesn't seem to respond to left clicks. Still have some glitches between levels! However, the game itself works fine! Also, if the Adlib sounds and musics are weird, set the oplrate to 49716. Works also like a charm by using the High Performance PCs mode if just that you may get a little weird coloured line at the bottom of the level screen. The mouse cursor bug that causes the game to return to the intro screen each time seems also to be gone under that version. To avoid getting the palette color problem between levels under Dosbox 0.73, just set the machine type to "vgaonly". Works perfectly under Dosbox 0.73 ( 09:43) I even installed it in DosBox but it won't run. It can be worked around by unfullscreening (alt-enter) before the left mouse click and then fullscreening (alt-enter) after the click.Īnd I put the Lemmings floppy in the drive, but I keep getting the message: However, the left mouse click seems to work correctly whenever a level is successfully completed. If, in game, you kill all lemmings using the mass explosion button, then a left mouse click on the results screen (to retry the level) goes to the title screen instead.

I'm using Windows XP and Dosbox 0.73 with "vgaonly" as adviced by DragonsLover. Still returns to the title screen under 0.73 ( 18:53)

To fix the game, use the Hex Editior to change the byte to 00.Fixing this Byte lasts for the the first time you start the game, but each time you run Lemmings, the program adds 1 to this byte, until 09 is reached and the "keydisk" check will then be required again.Run Lemmings once (to get the other bytes correct),then on exit, enter ATTRIB -H +R RUSSELL.DAT at the DOS prompt, to make the file READ-ONLY, preventing the byte being updated. A value of 00 to 08 indicates a "keydisk" check is not needed.

The important byte is the first byte 0000.This contains a switch to determine if the "keydisk" check is needed or not.A Value of 09 indicates a floppy check, it the normal value after the first installation. If you have unexact copies of your Lemmings Disks, the Error occurs. You can handle the Error by editing the file "Russel.dat" with an He圎dior at your installation folder. Updated link for LemmingsCorrected first posted in 2007:Ĭhanging Sound > Prebuffer to 80 fixed music stuttering for me.įor all with the error "Lemmings Disk 1 not found".The Error occurs because of the Copy Protection "keydisk" on the floppy disks. I first played this when I was about 8 or 9 years old and that was 30 years ago - it's still a great game, but very addictive!

I also had to use a hex editor to edit the russell.dat file in order to circumvent the copy protection check, I used GHex for Linux which is available from the Software Manager in Linux Mint. I'm running DOSBox 0.74-3 on Linux and it works fine - I also experienced the color palette problem on the level intro screen, but I found changing the machine type to vgaonly did the trick - you have to edit the dosbox config file using a text editor.
